Thank You, GRBA!

The Joseph Project has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Liberty Bell Award by the Grand Rapids Bar Association!

The Liberty Bell Award honors a nonprofit organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the cause of justice or advancing public understanding of the Constitution and legal system. The purpose of the Award is to recognize community service that has raised awareness in America’s justice system by:

  • promoting a better understanding of our Constitution and Bill of Rights;

  • encouraging greater respect for law and the courts;

  • stimulating a deeper sense of individual responsibility so citizens recognize their duties as well as their rights;

  • contributing to the effective functioning of our institutions of government; and

  • fostering a better understanding and appreciation of the rule of law.

TJP Founder Nate Knapper and Legal Director Kelsey Dame accepted the award on the organization’s behalf at a recent ceremony in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“The Constitution’s 13th Amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist in the United States or any place subject to their jurisdiction,” said Nate Knapper, The Joseph Project’s Founder and CEO. “By confronting the crime of human trafficking - a form of modern-day slavery - we strive to shape our society into a more consistent reflection of the ideals upon which America was founded. In the spirit of the abolitionists who gave the Liberty Bell its name, we proudly say, Let Freedom Ring!”
