Thank You, OCBF!

The Jospeh Project is the recent recipient of a $15,000 donation from the Oakland County Bar Foundation (OCBF).

The OCBF is a partner of the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA), the largest voluntary bar association in Michigan. The Foundation promotes and funds programs designed to increase access, affordability, and understanding of the law and legal system.

Issued in conjunction with Human Trafficking Prevention Month, which is nationally recognized every January, the OCBF’s generous donation reinforces the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to extend the protections of law to those in need.

Human trafficking does not discriminate along geographic boundaries,” said Nate Knapper, The Joseph Project’s Founder and CEO. “The Joseph Project has serviced survivor-clients who reside in Oakland County and achieved victories for survivors in Oakland County courts. We are deeply grateful to the OCBF for its contribution to the expansion of justice access among the exploited within its own backyard.
— Nate Knapper, Founder + CEO

The OCBA and The Joseph Project have a history of collaboration. In 2019, the two organizations partnered with the State Bar of Michigan, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, and Lakeshore Legal Aid to host a statewide human trafficking training event for Michigan attorneys. As a result, over one hundred lawyers across the state agreed to accept a pro bono case on a survivor’s behalf.
